in Central Java on March 4, 1886, he was the eldest son of

Mangunkusumo, a low-ranking priyayi within the

                                      structure of Javanese society.

He continued his education at the STOVIA medical school

with the hope of being closer to helping the weak people

who were oppressed by the colonial government.

It was from this education that he later had a provision

as a doctor, which he mobilized to eradicate the bubonic

plague in Java at that time. The following is the story of

Cipto Mangunkusumo in fighting the Pes plague that

attacked Java in 1910.In 1910, Jawa had a rough time.

Which was they had a lack of rice, so the duchess decided

to Import rice from the Chinese using a boat to Jawa.

But, in the boat, it is full of mice that ate the rice and

caused the disease which Indonesian people called it Pes.

When the boats arrived on the island, they transported

the rice to the train that will carry the rice to the

markets. Inside the train, there were more mice that

were eating the rice on the train and were spreading

                                      more disease.
