What Is A Leave of Absence?
A Leave of Absence (LOA) is any time away from work (other than vacation) for a serious medical condition or if 3 or more shifts are expected to be missed.
When Should An Employee Request A LOA?
A LOA request is required when an employee is out for a serious medical condition or plans to miss 3 or more shifts. If the need for the leave is not foreseeable, an employee must request the leave as soon as practicable (within one (1) to two (2) business days of learning of the need for leave). There are many types of leaves and each leave has eligibility requirements and required actions. The Standard Insurance Company will provide the employee with further details on what leaves an employee may be eligible for based on the circumstance when filing a leave.
