Your Role In Managing The Various Leave Types
Continuous and Intermittent Leaves
• If an employee contacts you directly with a question regarding their leave of absence, please refer the employee to The Standard. Employees may contact The Standard with questions during business hours: Monday- Friday, 5 a.m. - 5 p.m. (PST) by calling 800-232-3146.
• Local HR should anticipate receiving email communications when changes or updates are made to an employee’s leave of absence.
• Please respond to email inquiries from The Standard within 24-48 hours to prevent delay in leave and claim decisions.
• The Standard is projecting benefits payable for integrated FMLA and STD files. Please be aware that this benefit calculation should be finalized by Ventura Benefits in order to prevent incorrect benefits from issuing to employees.
• Benefits will notify Local HR if Bridgepay is applicable, Local HR will then enter calculated hours in Kronos within the same pay period. If LOA is approved after the pay period has closed, Local HR will need to notify Payroll to retroactively adjust.
• If you become aware of a change to an employee’s leave of absence that is not reflected in the absence portal, please provide The Standard with notice of the expected changes. Timely notification allows The Standard to update the leave of absence appropriately and determine next steps regarding ongoing case management.
• Local HR may reach out to absence@ standard.com with any file-specific status inquiries. Please note, the anticipated turn- around time for responses from absence@ standard.com is 24-48 hours.
• Resources are available to combat leave misuse, including: authentication of leave certifications, recertification based on concerns of misuse, and 2nd opinions. If you become aware of leave misuse, please work with the Benefits team and Standard Insurance regarding next steps based on the details of the case.
All employees will need to complete the leave request process for FMLA and State Leaves with Standard Insurance Company (as outlined in this section). Local HR teams are responsible for filing any workers compensation claims.
