A Close Look into an Amazing Career: A Noteworthy Interview with Jim Wigmore
EIJ: Congratulation on your book “Wigmore on Alcohol”, it is having major worldwide success. Why did you
decide to write your book? What information can we ind inside? Where can we get a copy?

Jim Wigmore: Thank-you. I am quite proud of my book and the positive response it has received from various
forensic and legal journals. I am also pleased and gratiied that about 90% of my sales are in the US. It was
my “opus magnum” and involved critically reviewing over 10,000 studies conducted over one hundred years
in forensic alcohol toxicology from my database and choosing 711 of the most relevant and important studies
for my book. I decided to write my book as no comprehensive compendium existed in this area. I wanted a
reference book I could easily refer to. It is encyclopedic in nature consisting of over 60 indexed sections which
covers topics such as the absorption, distribution and elimination of alcohol, breath, urine and blood alcohol
testing, postmortem alcohol, and the effect of alcohol on driving, aggression, pedestrian accidents, maritime
accidents, bicycling, railway accidents and snowmobiles. I also cover some more whimsical areas such as the
effect of alcohol on mosquitoes and sunburns. I’m sure any medico-legal professional will ind it a welcomed
addition to their library. The book may be obtained through my website http://www.wigmoreonalcohol.com or
from my publisher at http://www.irwinlaw.com

EIJ: You have had so much experience and success in your ield. Your accomplishments are massive and
impressive. Is there anything that you would do differently in your career?

JimWigmore: I don’t think I would do anything different. I ind I have been very lucky in my career and as
the old adage goes, “the harder I work, the luckier I get”. My advice to budding forensic toxicologists it that
they should pursue their passion and obtain the most appropriate postgraduate degree. They should join and
become involved in as many forensic societies/associations and attend as many forensic conferences as possible.

We at Elite Investigative Journal, Thank you! Jim Wigmore for sharing your extensive knowledge and expertise;
you have deinitely proved that you are a force to be reckoned with in your ield as a Forensic Alcohol Toxicolo-
gist, Author, Speaker and Expert Witness. Again Congratulations on your book “Wigmore on Alcohol” and
much continued success. We salute you!
