Medical Laboratory Technician/Medical Technologist (MLT/MT)
• The MLT/MT EQS committees met on September 21, 2019
• Reviewed and updated the examination reference list
• Reviewed competency outlines
• Authored new items/reviewed and revised the new items/assigned Minimum Passing Levels
(MPLs) to the items
• Reviewed all items on the MT examination draft form
Molecular Diagnostics Technician (MDT)
• Last year the MDT committee completed the new MDT examination certification form
• The MDT committee would like to have a study guide created for prospective candidates.
Additional SMEs are needed to construct a study guide. The SMEs that serve on the MDT
committee cannot serve in the construction of a study guide as SMEs cannot work on both test
and review course development.
• If you are a Molecular Diagnostics Technician or work with others who are, please consider
volunteering or suggesting a colleague that could serve in this capacity. See my notes on page
two of this report on how to submit Participant Interest Form and resume.
Patient Care Technician (PCT)
• The PCT committee has to date performed all the necessary steps required to roll out the new
certification examination. In recent months, pilot testing of the provisional test form was
conducted. In the exercise, patient care specialists sat for PCT Pilot Quiz that was delivered
through the Pearson VUE platform-to gather information on the performance of items included
in the test. The pilot test administration phase of the project was concluded on March 31, 2020.
• In terms of next steps, the committee will analyze the item performance data and the
committee will be able to finalize the exam and set the passing score.
• The committee members continue with item bank creation
Registered Dental Assistant (RDA)
• The newly formed group of SMEs on the RDA committee met on Saturday, October 5, 2019 in
Rosemont
• Prior to the meeting, the committee reviewed and revised the test blueprint, reviewed and
revised the examination reference list and wrote new items for a new examination
• At the meeting, the committee reviewed, updated and approved the RDA outlines and test
blueprints based on task analysis research and outcomes by vote of the committee
• Dr. Fidler and Dr. Risk led the group through the standard setting exercise to be able to apply
the ratings/pass rate to the new exam and setting MPLs
Registered Medical Assistant (RMA)
• In the past year, the RMA committees have worked to review the tests blueprint, authored new
items, and reviewed the next exam form
• The RMA committees work constantly to keep the exam forms relevant
• The committees went through the standard setting exercise using the Angoff, Bookmark and
Hofstee methods
• The committee also reviewed items that had statistical performance issues
