Regional Council Meeting (RCM) and Biennial General Meeting (BGM) held in Port of Spain, Trinidad
and Tobago, 12 – 18 October 2019

Countries represented at RCM/BGM: The Bahamas, Barbados, Curacao, Cayman Islands, Grenada,
Guyana, Jamaica, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Maarten/St. Martin, Trinidad and Tobago and USA.

RCM:
Items of discussion:
• Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC): Ministries of Health from islands in the region have
requested that CASMET work to develop an examination in the region for Medical
Technologist/Medical Laboratory Technicians. A staff member is to be present on Thursday, 17
October (meeting cancelled). There must be buy-in from the Council to take back to
membership. Question: Would this preclude students/workers from taking AMT and/or ASCP
examination? To be discussed. Concern if CASMET must pay any cost for development?
Proposed contract being sent again. This is to be presented at the BGM for further discussion.
• Magnolia Education Treasures (MET) 2020 Status: Due to high cost, the MET would not be able
to meet in The Bahamas. CASMET will continue to look for less costly venue for the MET.
• “Under 40” members: CASMET members were encouraged to apply for the AMT “Under 40”
program. Like AMT, this program would greatly help the members with younger membership
participation. Since CASMET does not have a RMA certification, this would only apply for their
MT/MLT members.
• 2020 Call for Program: CASMET was made of the 2020 Call for Program for the national meeting
in July 2020 to be held in NM. Information was shared that if they had topics or presenters of
interest to contact the AMT Office with information.
• 2020 AMT National meeting is to be held in Albuquerque, NM July 2020. This meeting, not like

previous meetings, will not conflict with the 4 of July. There should be no real airline or hotel
issues with CASMET travel.
• 2021 AMT national meeting is scheduled for the Southern District. Dates and locations will be
shared as soon as they are determined.
BGM:
