Tom Hipper is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health at the Dornsife
School of Public Health at Drexel University, where he teaches foundations and systems of public health, health
communication, and crisis and emergency risk communication. He is also the Associate Director of the Center for Public
Health Readiness and Communication, where he currently oversees a CDC-funded grant project designed to address the
disaster information needs of children with special health care needs. Tom is a Fellow of the Center for
Risk Communication and is currently working on an ASTHO-funded project to develop clear answers to top questions
about COVID-19. Tom is also currently serving on Philadelphia's Vaccine Advisory Board to plan for the implementation
of a COVID-19 vaccine program in Philadelphia. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies from The
College of New Jersey, a Master of Science in Public Health from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health,
and a Master of Arts in Health Communication for Pennsylvania State University. This award is given to alumni with
outstanding achievements in the field of public health.
