Dr. Borges is an Associate Professor in the department of public health. Dr. Borges holds a PhD in Dental Public Health,
minor in Oral Epidemiology, completed at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG-Brazil) with a fellowship at
Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH-Boston). She holds a Master is in Public Health, minor in Epidemiology. She also
has advanced training in Education, Habilitation in Instructional Design, at University of Wisconsin Stout. Research
interests are in Social Epidemiology, Social Determinants of health-illness, Health inequities, oral health inequalities, and
new technologies applied to health. She is an international recognized public health expert who embraces the teacher-
scholar model and includes students in her research and publications/presentation. This award is given to a faculty member
who has shown a commitment to student success by participating in extracurricular activities such as conducting research,
co-authoring publications, who encourages and prepares students for professional conferences, and other professional
development measures. Dr. Borges certainly possesses these qualities.
