Israeli Architecture
In what style did (they) build the houses on Nachalat Binyamin street?
Just like Israelis, Nachalat Binyamin is a mix of east and west. Along
Nachalat Binyamin street one can see many buildings in an eclectic
style, and even Art nouveau style. The buildings are a mix of “Neo
Classic”Eastern European architecture, with oriental motifs that reflect
the attraction to the charm of the east.
In the year 2008 Tel Aviv Municipality approved the preservation plan
of Tel Aviv. The plan acknowledges the importance of the buildings in
the pedestrian mall that’s considered one of the most important in the
city. The preservation plan of these houses is an urban trend all over the
world. This is happening in the expensive neighborhoods in London,
Paris, Rome and Berlin, and this is happening also in Israel, as the most
beautiful buildings of the city gain a new life.
An example for such a house is “the House of the Lords” (15 Rambam
st.), named after Lord Melchett who visited there. In this house the artist
Reuven Rubin got married and lived, and on the roof of the house he
painted a few of his most famous pieces.
