Peace Through TikTok

At one of the most explosive points in the world, on the border where both threats and diplomacy

did not reduce the tension, there is one place where both sides of the barricade bridged the gap.
These two managed to find a common language between them and also in the conversation with
us. Let’s go back to a time when they still lived on both sides of the border. Evelyn was lucky -

her mother left the country to do business and she got a taste of the outside world. In the southern

half of the Korean Peninsula Leo was looking for ways to practice English. After a few years in
the United States Evelyn moved to South Korea where, because of (lit. surrounding) TikTok, a
connection was established between the two. Evelyn's girlfriends from home are probably not
among her millions of viewers, but she believes the TikTok [videos] indeed reach Pyongyang.
She avoids politics a bit but she does try to shatter the stereotypes that also arise in the interview
with us. Evelyn also encounters prejudices in South Korea, a lot, but it is the relationship with Leo
that helps her feel a little more at home.
