                          Kosher or Not?

In the ultra-orthodox world everyone is talking about the Berekel rooster now, a rooster from
Belgium who (we) don’t know if it’s kosher or not. How do (you) usually know whether a bird is
kosher or not? In the Torah there’s a list of birds that are forbidden to eat; (you) can eat anything
that’s not on the list, but only if (you) know the bird and know that there are Rabbis who eat it in
the past. There are Rabbis who think that the Berekel is kosher, and there are Rabbis who think it
isn’t. The Berekel has to take [lit. do] many tests, one of which is standing on a stick.
