Unit 4 – Start Food Shopping in Hebrew
But grandpa David used to go to the pot of “all that’s good” and
check what was the case: If there were two portions of soup left,
he would pour it into two bowls and serve one to grandma. But
if there was only one portion left, he would put on a tray a bowl
of soup, bread, and a glass of water and bring it to grandma to
bed. Grandma would ask immediately: “Grandpa David, and
what will you have? Do you have any soup left?” and grandpa
David would always nod- even if all that was really left was
bread with some olive oil and a tomato.
This is how I learned from the pot of “all that’s good” how one
can help every day the needy and poor people and make them
feel like guests. I also learned how it was possible to feed family
and neighbors and to make them happy. But the most important
thing I have learned is how much my grandma and grandpa
loved and respected each other. So much that they preferred to
give up their food so that the other one would feel good and
warm. See how many things one can learn from one pot?!
