Want a Democracy
For many months, Nicolás Maduro has been struggling to put Venezuela in
order. Maduro, elected into office after the death of Hugo Chávez, wanted
to continue with the extreme socialist policy that benefits the people,
mostly to those without. But the oil reservoirs Venezuela has a multitude
of lost about half their value in recent years. The state treasury has
emptied, food products vanished from stores as well and inflation is
galloping, seven hundred percent in a year. In the elections held a year and
a half ago, Maduro lost the majority in the parliament, which became a
stage for the opposition, and he, as dictators do, announced a new election
for a new legislative council. One of the (most) prominent acts of protest
against Maduro was made by this police helicopter pilot who defected and
flew his helicopter in the skies of the capital Caracas carrying a banner that
reads- Freedom. ‘Chaivsm’, the populism led by Hugo Chávez was called.
Chavizm turned a thriving Venezuela to a wobbling dictatorship, and the
last word has not been said yet.
