Moshe, and there he was caught by the British. The British made
him stand trial and sentenced him to death. He sat in the Acre prison
for some time and then the British transferred him to the Jerusalem
prison that is found in the Russian Compound, where he waited for
the execution of his sentence.
In prison Meir met Moshe Barzani, a fighter of "Lechi" – an
additional underground movement that fought the British. Moshe
Barzani was a courageous and level-headed man that also waited for
a death sentence. Moshe and Meir did not want to request pardon
from the British. Rachel, the fiancée of Meir Feinstein, visited Meir
in his cell each time that she could and was angry at the commanders
of the underground movement that did not try to act for his release.
She came every day at the exercise hour of the prisoners to one of the
house in the Russian Compound and stood on the roof of the house in
order to see her beloved Meir during the daily exercise hour. When
the prisoners sent out for a walk in the yard of the prison, she
identified Meir by his amputated arm.
On April 20th 1947, two days before the execution of the sentence,
Rachel met with Meir, who already wore red clothes of one
sentenced to death. Their meeting was emotional and full of tears
from Rachel. Meir, in contrast, tried to encourage and maintained
courage
and strength. He whispered in her ear at the time that he embraced
her, "The noose won't be tightened on my neck." With this he tried
