Working on Vacation Too

Brothers Amit and Ido from Akko are just ten and twelve years old, and already they instruct and
lead activities for groups of kids their age. These kids, from this after-school care in Akko, can’t
afford to celebrate (their) birthday like any other child, so Amit and Ido throw their parties
themselves. Even during the summer vacation, while many of their friends are stuck to (their)
smartphones or the TV, Ido and Amit continue volunteering at the after-school care. Natan from
Jerusalem has been running for two years, since the age of thirteen, the project he created himself –
the Always project, through which he fixes used computers and gives them to families in need.
Yarden is thirteen years old, but mentally it seems that he’s much more mature than that. Maybe
this is the reason that his sensitivity to golden agers is so high as well. Every week he comes to the
Mifgash Bakfar nursing home in Kfar Saba, and spends time with the local residents. Children’s
volunteering in the community isn’t just a moral and educational act. All the kids we met say that
just like the day camps and trips, also volunteering can be one of countless enjoyable experiences
they gather during the summer months.
