Evyatar Banay

Evyatar Banay (born February 8th 1973) is an Israeli singer, songwriter and
composer, son of the Banay family, who has released four albums since 1997.
Evyatar Banay was born in 1973 in Be’er Sheva. Banay studied as a film
major in high school. He also learned to play piano for eight years.
Banay began performing with the songs of the first album, which included
many love songs, in small and intimate places. The album “Evyatar Banay”
was released in 1997, and to the surprise of many became a commercial
success. In the following years Banay came closer to tradition, a spiritual
change which manifested in the songs he wrote, many parts of which are
taken from the book of Psalms or from the song of songs scroll.
Evyatar Banay is a personal and individual creator, who usually writes most
of his lyrics himself. His songs are characterized with a unique writing style
that doesn’t insist on rhyming or on a typical structure of verses and a chorus,
and deal with complicated and personal matters. Banay’s songs are complex
in terms of the harmony that accompanies them as well, and they are
influenced by many different kinds of music. Yoav Kutner (a well known and
well appreciated Israeli music critic) wrote about him that he is “a true artist
and seeker, who isn’t willing to repeat some kind of formula in order to
succeed”.
