Ehud Banay
Ehud Banay (born March 31st, 1953) is an Israeli singer-songwriter. He
writes and composes almost all of his songs.
Ehud Banay was born in Jerusalem to the actor Yaakov Banay from the
famous Banay family. When he was 4 years old his family moved to
Givatayim. He did his army service in the ‘Nachal’.
For many years he tried to penetrate the Israeli music market, but without
success. When he was on the verge of despair, Banay got his first success in
1985, when he wrote the hit “Night Train” for the band ‘Mashina’. In 1987,
when he was 34, Banay released his first album, which is considered to be
one of the most important albums in Israeli Rock in the eighties, “Ehud
Banay and the Refugees”, which included songs of rage and social protest.
Banay was a traditional man during most of his musical career, and in the
early 2000’s became even closer to religion and began wearing a kipah and
observing the Shabbat. In many of his songs Banay emphasizes his
connection to Jewish matters.
Ehud Banay’s songs that appear in this book: ‘Night Train to Cairo’,
‘Everybody Knows’.
