Gidi Gov
Gidi (Gid’on) Gov (born August 4th 1950) is an Israeli singer, actor,
comedian and TV host. Gov is married to the playwright and writer Anat Gov
and father to 3 children. Gov was born in Rechovot by the name Gid’on Gov
to Tziporah and Daniel Gov. as a child he suffered from asthma, and his
family had to move to Eilat.
As a teenager Gov didn’t plan to be a singer. His singing and acting career
began only when he enlisted to the IDF in 1969, to the ‘Nachal’ band. In
1973 Gov started, along with several of his friends from the ‘Nachal’ band
the ‘Kaveret’ (lit. beehive) band. The band released three albums, represented
Israel in the 1974 Eurovision and won the title “Band of the Year ”four
consecutive times in ‘Kol Israel’’s yearly Hebrew hit parade.
Parallel to his musical career, over the course of the seventies Gov took part
in Israeli TV programs and films. Gov took part in the TV shows: “Zehu
Ze!”, “Layla Gov” and “Gidi Gov goes to eat”. In 2005 Gov took part in the
TV show “Mifgashir” on channel 24, in which he sang along with Rona
Kenan the song “The Odd Dance of the Heart” which Kenan wrote and
composed. In 2009 the Hed Artzi company released a triple collection album
of Gov’s by the name “All of his Songs”. The album attained gold album
status.
