Riki Gal

Riki Gal (born July 7th 1950) is an Israeli singer and actress.
Gal was born by the name Rivka Menashe to a poor Charedi family in ‘Me’a
She’arim’ neighborhood in Jerusalem. Her parents got divorced when she
was two years old and she was sent to a mission where she was educated by
nuns.
In 1968, at age 17, she enlisted into the Navy band where she served along
with Shlomo Artzi, Dov Glikman and Rivka Zohar. It was then she recorded
her first solo song. In 1973 she began her independent career. Over the course
of her career Gal participated in various musical projects, appearing in TV
shows and recording for different TV and radio programs. Riki Gal adds a
unique vocal aspect, beauty and great personal charm to each project. In 2004
and 2005 Gal participated as a judge on the musical talent show “A Star is
Born”, (the Israeli version of “American Idol”) and was considered to be the
harshest and most terrifying of the judges.
