Eli Mohar
Eli Mohar (December 30th 1948 – November 30th 2006) was an Israeli
songwriter and columnist.
Eli Mohar was born in 1948 in Tel Aviv, son to Adina and songwriter and
poet Yechiel Mohar (Yechiel Mar), who wrote many songs for the Nachal
band.
Eli Mohar was raised on the values of working Israel, was a member of the
youth movement “Hamachanot Ha’olim” and studied in the A. D, Gordon
school. He participated in The Six day War, The War of Attrition and the
Yom Kippur War.
In the last year of his life Mohar fell ill with pancreatic cancer, but kept on
with his work with his eternal optimism despite the sickness. In the last few
months of his life, he also participated in many interviews, in which he spoke
of his father. Eli Mohar passed away at his home in Azur on November 30th
2006, and was buried in the cemetery on December 3rd.
Over the years Mohar became one of the most important songwriters in
Israel, mainly in songs he'd written for graduates of "Kaveret": Yoni Rechter,
Gidi Gov, Efraim Shamir, Yitzhak Klepter and Alon Ole’archik and also for
Arik Einshtein. Mohar worked a lot with Yoni Rechter, who became the most
prominent composer of his songs.
