Tirza Attar
Tirza Attar (1941-1977) was an Israeli poet, song writer, writer and
translator. She was a beautiful woman with phenomenal Hebrew and great
influence on Israel's culture.
Tirza Attar was the daughter of Natan Alterman and the actress Rachel
Marcus. Attar was a gifted poet, who published three song books during her
life. Her most famous songs were her composed poems such as: "Pitom
Akhshav, Pitom Hayom" (suddenly now, suddenly today). Tirza Attar was
known for her sensitivity- something that was seen through her songs. Her
father, the poet Natan Alterman, wrote her a song that expresses his fear for
her future- "Shimri Nafshekh" (Be careful. literally: guard your soul). On
September 7th 1977, when she was only 36 years old, Tirza was killed as she
fell out of the window of her house on the 6th floor. Her family claims it was
an accident, even though; signs of suicide can be found within her poems.
Tirza Attar's song in this book: ‘Saturday morning’.
