The Moon Grove
The Moon Grove is a small romantic grove in the Talbiya
neighborhood - nature in the middle of the city. (They) planted the
grove at the end of the 19th century. It was the garden of the nearby
leprous’ hospital. Today it has many flowers, trees and birds.
Many generations of children came to the grove. They played, strolled
and went out on romantic dates at the grove.
A few years ago, the Municipality of Jerusalem decided to build tall
buildings on (top of) the grove. The people in the neighborhood were
very angry when they heard about it, and decided to do anything in
order to save the grove! They wrote letters to the city, and held [lit.
did] big demonstrations.
The struggle of Jerusalem’s residents wasn’t successful and the city
decided to continue with construction. Today (you) can still find birds
and flowers in the grove, but maybe soon they’ll stop coming…
