Beit Hatzayar
When walking through November 29th St., one can see something very
strange in the middle of the city: goats, peacocks, rabbits and ducks.
This is Beit Hatzayar School’s petting zoo. This school is not an
ordinary school. Students who weren’t able to study at other schools
come here [lit. to it]. This school accepts everyone. In it the students
learn both regular subjects like math, history and Hebrew - and [also]
other subjects like Krav Maga, dog training, horesback riding and
soccer.
The students established the petting zoo and they take care of the
animals every day. On Thursdays the students open the petting zoo for
visitors. They explain about the animals, let people pet them and give
out pita-breads that they bake. The entrance only costs five NIS, a
donation to this special school, which helps children who weren’t able
to study in other places, to find a warm home.
