Static and Ben El in America
Static and Ben El’s dazzling success story takes a surprising twist to America. The duo, who three
years ago were uploading clips to YouTube and hoping that something will catch (on), suddenly
find themselves signing a ten years and seven records contract with the enormous production
company Capitol Records, which is a Universal affiliate as well. How was the connection between
Static and Ben El and Capitol Records made? The answer (lies) far away from here, in Los Angeles.
Like in any success story, it takes also quite a bit of luck. Here, we’ll let Haim Saban himself tell
the story, “I was on vacation, and someone sent me a link to the song Barbie. The chairman of the
biggest records company, Universal Music, who’s also a very good friend of mine, happened to be
with me. He listened to it, he tells me, hey, this is an amazing song.” Today they already started
recording (their) two first songs in English, Kvish HaHof and Tudo Bom. They’re keeping their
small staff, including producer Jordi, and together they’ll work with Capitol’s producer Emily
Wright, who’s worked with singers like Katy Perry and Britney Spears. “We’ll bring our Israeli
color, they’ll bring us their American color, let’s hope we’ll come out kind of Israelicans.”
