The Little People of Tel-Aviv

After they decided to renovate Beit Ha'ir, they looked for an
original way in which the visitors could learn a little bit about
the history of the city of Tel-Aviv.
Tel-Aviv municipality collected from the city's residents old
photos from their private photo albums – photos of Tel-Aviv in
its early years. They collected about 30,000 photos and
eventually 1,500 best photos were selected.

Through the photos collection, which we are viewing now, we
can learn about the city. These are photos that ordinary people
who lived at that period photographed. These are not photos of
professional photographer, but of ordinary people – the little
people of Tel-Aviv. Through the photos we can learn about the
culture and the character of the city at that period.

If we look at the photos, we can see central places in the city:
Rothschild Street, the beach, Dizengoff Square and etc.
Nowadays, these streets are not at all similar to the streets we
see in the photos, because Tel-Aviv grew and evolved
throughout the years.
