                      Immigrating to Israel

Friday, weekend in New York. Lois says goodbye to the busy streets and
urban landscape she’s known her whole life. Lois has never defined herself
as a Zionist, three of her four children live in the United States as well, but
she decided that she wants to live her retirement years in Israel, in
Nahariya. Two hundred and one new Olim from North America landed
this morning on a flight by the Nefesh B’Nefesh organization. Alongside
eighty children, thirty four families and thirteen future soldiers, there were
quite a few members of the golden years [lit. third age] as well, who
decided they want to spend the last chapter of their lives in Israel. Abbey
and Ron started packing their many suitcases in their home next to the
Yosemite (national) park in California. At the age of seventy, they
announced to their daughters that they’re leaving the reserve’s granite
cliffs and famous waterfalls, and immigrating to Israel. As of tomorrow,
they will already live in their new home in Netanya. Before boarding the
plane the excitement is at its peak; long months of arrangements and
mental preparation for the extreme change, come to the moment when
(they) say goodbye to the family and friends and start a new chapter in life.
Tomorrow morning, after the ceremonies and warm hug they got, the new
chapter of their lives will begin. And each of the Olim who left a
convenient life in the United States believes that here in Israel, is the best
place to live in.
