                    The Dogs of Bet Shemesh

Residents of Bet Shemesh are used to these images, dogs wandering
around the city streets and around homes, sometimes attacking as well,
residents have been complaining about his phenomenon for a long time.
This week the city decided, backed by the Ministry of Agriculture, to shoot
the dogs, a decision that stirred up social networks. The Prime Minister’s
Facebook page was also enlisted to this protest, recruited by his wife
Sarah, “Dear Minister Uri Ariel, I ask you to do everything in your power
to prevent shooting the dogs, convinced that (we) can find other ways to
safeguard public health.” Bet Shemesh’s mayor didn’t keep quiet. The
city’s residents joined him, even more enraged, “I didn’t make Aliyah so
that Sarah Netanyahu can tell me how to protect my children, when she
sits there in her palace at the Prime Minister’s Residence.” This is a time
when Bet Shemesh residents document the wandering dogs under their
home windows. During an attack residents refrain from photographing and
are busy running away. As of right now Bet Shemesh’s dogs continue to
wander the streets and backyards, and despite the objections to using
firearms, the city’s residents wish for a solution to this problem.
