Seven Blessings
Dating apps are a common and popular tool in the world of single men and
women, but this app, Seven Blessings, is groundbreaking for the religious-
ultra-orthodox sector. The app’s developers want to take the place of
traditional matchmakers, and created an app that knows to take into
account the built-in restrictions of the observant’s world as well. “We’re
open to anyone, the only condition is keeping Negiah.” Melany and Nir
met less than a year ago on Seven Blessings, and this summer they already
walked down the aisle. The unique and controversial component on this
app is the option of liking photos – judging according to looks, something
that is challenging the sector’s boundaries of modesty. “This is an app on
which the photos are more according to the spirit of the Halakha and more
modest.” More than twenty thousand people are already registered to the
app, hoping that what starts with a few presses on the screen will end, as
quickly as possible, with the breaking of the glass.
