A King in South Tel Aviv
At the South Park in Tel Aviv, at noon on Rosh Hashana, all members of
the Ibbo community came with traditional music and clothes in order to
receive their new king, Higamba Hojaku. Members of the Ibbo community
immigrated to Israel from Nigeria twenty years ago, they believe they are a
part of the Gad tribe, and keep the Jewish tradition. Most of the members
stayed in Nigeria, but the two hundred members who live in Israel decided
that they need a king, like in the Torah. In Israel (they) treat members of
Ibbo like all refugees from Africa, it’s hard for them with money and the
bureaucracy in Israel, and they want the new king to help them with that.
