For the Glory of the State of Israel

The most interesting thing on Independence Day eve in Israel is seeing the people who light torches
at the ceremony. This year, singer Shlomo Artzi and actors Ze’ev Revach and Leah Koenig light the
torches. Other people who light a torch, but not everyone knows them, are an ultra-orthodox woman
who works in hi-tech and wants to bring more ultra-orthodox women into the workplace, a fifteen
year old girl who has a patent that helps not to forget children in cars and a (woman) faculty dean at
the Technion. Each one of them is special in what they do, but they all say one sentence, “and for
the glory of the state of Israel.”
