Act Out
Part 2
Shira: It’s true, but what can I do? Being an actress is my dream. I don’t want a
different profession. My dad says: “Why don’t you want to be an
architect, or a graphic designer?” and my mom says: “An actor is not a
profession. You need a serious profession. Why don’t you want to be a
doctor?”
Daniel: I’m familiar with that… You see, my mom is a lawyer, my dad is an
accountant, my big brother is a doctor and my sister is a journalist. They
work in “serious” professions, with a good salary.
Shira: But you have a serious profession, too, don’t you? You studied
computers in college.
Daniel: I studied computers, but… I want to be a photographer.
Shira: A photographer? Really?
Daniel: Yes. I love taking photos, very much.
Shira: So what’s the problem? A photographer is a great profession.
Daniel: Yeah, but my dad says that there are a lot of photographers on the
market, and I need to be an excellent [excelling] photographer to get
customers.
Shira: And you’re not an excellent photographer?
Daniel: I don’t know… Maybe.
Shira: I think you should be a photographer. It’s your dream. But Daniel…
Daniel: Yes?
Shira: You can be a photographer, but not a paparazzi photographer. Actresses
don’t like paparazzi photographers.
Daniel: (cynically) Oh, what a pity! I’m dying to be a paparazzi photographer!
But for you – I’ll shoot hippopotami on National Geographic, and not
beautiful actresses for magazines.
