Words of the Intern
"Even as a waiter I earned more."
"I work from 8 am until 6 pm daily, except for Fridays. And sometimes I
even stay passed those working hours," said yesterday A.T, an intern in a
law firm of tort law.
"For every hour of work I earn only 20 shekel (an hour) [in a month], in
additional payment of traveling according to the bus fare, and the hours
make it impossible [to have] another job in order to complete my
income."
"Whether you work 8 hours a day or stay in the office more than 12
consecutive hours, you receive the same sum. There are no extra hours.
There are no socio-economic conditions, no pension, no provident fund,
no parking or sharing expenses of food and gas. The sum that I make in a
month does not cover even my car expenses, not to mention [talk] rent
and regular expenses."
"To get a haircut costs money. Toothpaste costs money, also going out
once in a while, in order to clear the head from the difficult job and the
daily troubles costs money- a lot.
my standard of living has gone down drastically since I've started
interning, and I really hope that the change will happen and that it will be
significant. I never earned minimum wage for my skills, even as a waiter
I earned more."
