                                        Who Reads Nowadays?
The Hebrew Book Week opened, and this is the chance to meet the
children who love discovering new worlds. Nine year old Tamar, Hillel
and Talia, and just seven years old Ilay, broke reading records in the past
year, no less than five hundred and fifty one books combined. “The
Adventures of Uncle Arieh”, “Teacher Drora isn’t a Monster” and “When
Grandpa Eliahu was Young”, author Yanetz Levi is signed on all of these.
This morning he came out of the shelves for a meeting with those who
spend a lot of time among his stories. About eight million books were sold
last year in Israel, and at the same time, seven thousand and seven hundred
new titles were published. Itay and Ariel, brother and sister from Dimona,
are especially excited this week. The smartphones, usually the focus of the
kids’ attention, become something a bit more minor this week as the
spotlight is turned to the words, pages and leafing through a book. In
honor of the reading champions, Tel Aviv-Yafo’s municipality will hold a
certificate-awarding ceremony next week in the library in Yafo.
