Culture in the German Colony
Throughout the years, the German colony has become a popular
neighborhood. It is (located) in a good location and has charm.
In the Colony is the Lev Smadar cinema. This is the most veteran
cinema in Jerusalem and it has existed for [already] 80 years.
The cinema building was built in 1928 and the British army used it. In
1950 Aryeh Chechik bought it and to this day his family manages the
cinema.
This cinema is a homey and pleasant place. Chechik didn’t have many
employees and he performed (did) all of the tasks in the cinema.
In the 50s there was a sale in the cinema: two movies for the price of
one. People spent many hours at the cinema because of that.
Today the cinema still operates (works) and quality films are projected
in it. It is always possible to watch movies in it with a cup of coffee
beer in hand.
