Track 6 Binyan Nif’al – Present Tense conversion rules
from infinitive to
Binyan Nif’al - Present Tense present tense
As we recall, the infinitive form of Binyan Nif’al usually begins with ִהְל
and has three syllables and the sound is L'HI...A...E...
In the present tense the first letter ל of the infinitive is omitted and the
root of the verb is preceded by ִנ and the vowels create the sound pattern
NI...A... נ
For feminine singular, we add the ending ת
and the sound pattern changes to NI...E...E – ֶ ֶ נ
ת
For plural we add the ending םי for masculine and תו for feminine.
Examples:
* ס נ כ ִ הְל ם ם ם ה ל לַעֹפה ַ ם ש
ס נכ ִנ ם ם ם נ ר כ ז - ה ה וֹ ֶו
ת ֶ סֶנכ ִנ ת ֶם ֶם ם נ ה בק נ - הֶו ה וֹ
םי ס נכ ִנ םי ם םם נ םיבר - ַ הֶו ה וֹ
תוֹ ס נכ ִנ תוֹם םם נ תוֹ בר - ַ הֶו ה וֹ
In Binyan Nif’al we do not have a clear sound connection between the
infinitive form and the present tense.
* It is possible to write either סֵנָכ ִהְל or סֵנָכי ִהְל and likewise with other
verbs in this group.
