Putin’s Interest

Almost everything that happens in Syria in recent years depends on Vladimir Putin, and he is the
one who says the last word. Putin’s interest in Syria is that Assad stay, and not because it could be
worse without him, rather because without Assad, Russia loses its control in Syria and Iran. Even
when Trump attacked Syria, it looked like he was careful not to hurt the Russian interest too much.
When Obama was the president, he thought that Putin wouldn’t manage to survive in Syria for a
long time, but not only did he survive, he also managed to keep (lit. leave) Assad with him.
