The Battle of San Simon

In 1948, there are Jewish neighborhoods around the Arab
Katamon. From the tall San Simon monastery in Katamon (you)
can see the whole area.
The Palmach soldiers want to conquer the monastery for the
security in the Jewish neighborhoods.
On the night of April 29th 1948, the Palmach soldiers see that
there’s no one in the monastery and are able to get in.
when the Arabs of the neighborhood see them, they start firing. A
very hard battle begins. In the battle a lot of soldiers die - Jews
and Arabs.
At the end of the battle the Arab soldiers run away from the
neighborhood and the Palmach wins. All of the soldiers and all of
the people who live in the neighborhoods around are very happy
because they realize that now they can live safely [with security].
