The Story of Moshe Barazani and Meir Feinstein

Rachel Kramer was the girlfriend of Meir Feinstein. She was an only
daughter of a rich family. Meir was born in the Old City and at the
age of 16 traveled to Europe to fight the Germans. He was in the
British army for two years and when he came to Israel he entered
Etzel and fought the British. The members of Etzel wanted to evict
the British from Israel. Rachel, his girlfriend, worked with him in
Etzel and her parents did not know a thing. The love between Rachel
and Meir blossomed, but they did not see each other very much. Meir
was in many operations against the British and on October 31st, 1946,
he went out with three friends in order to blow up the British train
station to Jerusalem that brought the British many weapons. Someone
told the British and they waited for Meir and his friends and caught
them. The Jewish soldiers fought against the British soldiers and Meir
was wounded in his arm. He remained one-armed. He escaped from
the British but they saw the blood and caught him and put him in
prison. His sentence was death. In prison he met Moshe Barazani, a
young man who was also sentenced to death. Moshe and Meir did not
want to give the British the opportunity to kill them and they asked
their friends for a grenade. They wanted to commit suicide.
Rachel came to visit Meir from afar every day. She knew who was
Meir by the amputated arm, and when she visited him for the last time
he embraced her and whispered to her: "Don't worry. The British
won't kill me." He told her to marry and requested, "If you merit sons,
call one of them after me (by my name)." Moshe and Meir wanted to
blow themselves up exactly at the moment when they would execute
them, but when it became known to them that Rabbi Goldman would
come to be with them during their last moments, they decided to die a
day earlier in order not to harm him. On April 22nd at 4:00 in the
morning, a day before the day of the execution, Rachel stood next to
the prison and heard a powerful explosion. Moshe and Meir put the
grenade between them and were killed on the spot. After a long
(much) time, Rachel got married to a commander in the Israeli army
and bore him children. One of them she called Meir.
