Let's now take the following verb and conjugate it in the future tense by
adding the respective prefixes and suffixes.

To remember ‫ִל ְזּכֹור‬

Verb root letters – ‫זכר‬

‫ֲא ַנחנּו‬ ‫הּוא‬ ‫ ִהיא‬/‫ַא ָּתה‬ ‫ֲא ִני‬

‫ִנזּכֹור‬ ‫ֶאזּכֹור ִתזּכֹור ִיזּכֹור‬

We will remember He will remember You (m, s), She will remember I will remember

‫ַא ֶתם ֵהם‬ ‫ַאת‬

‫ִתזּכרּו ִיזּכרּו‬ ‫ִתזּכ ִרי‬

They will remember You (pl.) will remember You (f, s) will remember

)‫ הן ( ֵה ָּנה‬,‫אתן‬

‫ִתזּכֹור ָּנה‬

They, You (f, pl) will remember

The "VAV" prefix - thematic prefix

‫ו‬Usually the letter "Vav" when is used as a prefix, its meaning is equivalent to the

English "and".

In Biblical Hebrew it is used to imply thematic continuity to a past narration or
within a sentence.

However in the Torah there is a special use of this prefix when it is used with verbs.
In these cases the meaning of the thematic prefix tense is actually just the opposite of
the original tense. This prefix is called "Vav HaHipukh" - the Vav of reversal.

‫ַו‬In the future tense it usually comes with the "patach" vowel and the sound is "VA"
