The Lions Fountain
The fountain and sculpture are located at a park called “Bloomfield
Park”. It is a gift given to Jerusalem by Germany.
The sculpture was designed by a German artist called Gernot Rumpf. The
artist stayed in Israel for a long period of time and visited the biblical zoo
several times in order to get inspiration for his sculpture.
The fountain was built in 1989 and was the first fountain in Jerusalem.
The fountain has a lot of symbolism and it tries to attune the viewer with
the feeling of paradise and encourage the coexistence between nations.
The symbols:
? The tree - symbolizes the Garden of Eden in the book of Genesis, a
story accepted by all nations.
? The water clefts - 7 clefts, like the topological number 7 in the
Bible.
? Vegetation, water and animals - the Garden of Eden.
? 4 places in which the railing is breached - the 4 rivers of paradise.
? Lions - the symbol of Jerusalem.
? Doves and mice and additional animals together - an ideal world.
