A Storm at the Knesset

It's a fundamental change, (one) of those bills where every word matters. And this is how the vote
on it was heard, or rather wasn't. Members of the opposition were furious at the expedited process;
at the end of three discussions, which were mostly a show for the cameras, chairman of the
committee Nissan Slomiansky decided to vote on the bill in preparation for approving it at the general
assembly by first call. The protests were of no help, the Constitution Committee approved for the first time
in the country's history a bill that will allow ninety Knesset Members to impeach another member from the
house. Balad's Knesset Members, who are suspended from deliberations due to their meeting with terrorists'
family members, weren't at the deliberation, but their friends on the Joint List showed solidarity and
threatened to follow them if they're impeached from the Knesset. Some members of the coalition preferred to
be absent from the deliberation and only came to the vote, others spoke against and voted for it. The bill will
soon come to a vote at the general assembly before first call, and may get into the law book still in the
(Knesset's) current session.
