        ALUMNI IN RESIDENCE

This semester, our Visual Arts students
were fortunate to have the opportunity
of workshops with BMGS Alumni who are
pursuing art in their tertiary studies and
        careers.
In April, James Delaney (2015) and Meg
Brailey (2017) generously gave of their time
to spend time with the Year 7 Performing
Arts students and Year 12 Visual Arts
students. James is currently studying Media
Arts at UNSW and Meg is in Los Angeles
to commence work on the set of Assassins
Creed. Meg is currently exhibiting a range of
        drawings at Blackheath.
It is always a thrill to have past students
return to the classroom and share their
        knowledge of specific drawing techniques
and digital media applications. James and
Meg worked with the Year 12 students,
listening to their ideas and offering their
        knowledge and mentorship.
In May our Year 11 Visual Arts students
participated in a sculpture workshop with
Nadia Odlum (2008). Nadia is a successful
professional artist, whose art practice spans
        drawing, painting, sculpture and installation.

Nadia has presented work at the Museum of
Contemporary Art Australia, the New York
Transit Museum, The Murray Art Museum
in Albury, Artspace, Firstdraft and Penrith
Regional Gallery. She has also completed
residencies at the Cite Internationale des
Arts in Paris, The Wassaic Project in New
York and Parramatta Artists Studios in
        Sydney.

During the workshop our students learnt
new technical skills in forming and joining
acrylic, and masking techniques using spray
paint to create dynamic abstract sculptural
        forms. This workshop informed their
sculpture project and unit on abstraction in
        their theoretical studies.
