Forty students participated in the School’s Year 11
Winter Ball, held on 12 June, an event that was both
th
a continuation of a longstanding tradition and the
introduction of several new features.
Historically, the first Ball held by the School was in
1976, organised by the Grammar Association (the
precursor to the now BMGS P & F Association) as
a fundraiser for the School and it was known as the
Blue & Gold Ball.
The Ball was originally held in the Springwood Civic
Centre (now The Hub) and continued to be the major
fundraiser for the School until the School became
co-educational, and the Ball ultimately transitioned
to include Debutantes in 1981.

School parents at that time, Mrs Nita Vergotis and
Mrs Margaret Groenewegen, were both active
members of the Grammar Association and were on
organising committees, led by Mrs Elsa Elkington,
for these annual Balls, with Mrs Vergotis serving
as Matron of Honour at the first Debutante Ball in
1981. We were therefore delighted that in 2021
- 40 years later and as the event evolves yet again,
