SHAREL CASSITY wrapped up her Master’s
Degree in Jazz Performance at Julliard just over
a decade ago and her resume is already too
extensive to list here. She has performed with
jazz greats like Herbie Hancock, Wynton
Marsalis, DeeDee Bridgewater, Natalie Cole,
Roy Hargrove, Nicholas Payton, Maceo Parker,
Terrence Blanchard, and others. But she has
also added to mainstream acts like Aretha
Franklin, Vanessa Williams, K.D. Lang, Fantasia,
Trisha Yearwood, DJ Logic, and Natalie
Merchant. Downbeat Magazine named her a
“Rising Star” 8 years in a row, and she continues
to tour the world extensively with her own
groups. Her very soulful alto sax sound was a
highlight of the day, as many packed in to see
her perform up close.
