Cruce said he felt like he was starving and
dying of thirst. One night he took out his Bible
and after reading the verses, he felt full for the
first time. He wondered, “What kind of person
would I be if I didn’t share that with someone
else who may need it?” His perspective is that
when you’re given a stage, you’re given a
responsibility. “When you’re on stage you
have a choice, and I try to be positive.”
“Music had always been a big thing for me.
Whenever I hear ‘In The Air Tonight’ by PHIL
COLLINS, I see those visions…back in Africa. I
remember it all,” Cruce said. His musical style
was heavily influenced by Phil Collins for this
reason, though he has always been a fan of
rap. “When I was a kid I was tone deaf, so I
rapped. When I got more into piano, I was
able to develop tone through playing,”
Crucifix said of what influenced his style.
One of his most popular songs “My Name Is,”
prompted ION to ask where he drew the
inspiration for his name. Originally starting
out under the name BABY BLUE when he was
younger, Crucifix decided after seeing the
light after his dark period that it was time for
a change. Cruce said the symbolism behind his
name comes from a verse. “I need to put my
flesh to death daily. To kill that old person.”
He knows he’s growing and evolving so each
day, his name a reminder that he is born again
with endless possibilities.
