TB: Your debut album was released earlier this year and includes some notable guests, Mark
Slaughter from Slaughter, and drummer Jim Riley from Rascal Flats. How was the band able
to hook up with these artists for the album?
KJ: We met Mark a few years ago while opening up for him. We got along great and kept in contact.
Our bassist, Chris, casually asked him to sing on our album, and he said yes. When the time came
to record, we sent him four songs to choose from, and he picked the song called “Solo” because he
said it reminded him of his days of being in The Vinnie Vincent Project. Ironically, he left that situation
to move on and go solo, which is what the song is about. Our producer, Chas Sandford, has worked
with so many people over the years in Nashville and L.A., and literally knows everyone. So, when we
were throwing around the idea of putting ‘Only Love Can Break Your Heart’ on the album, we had a
few drummers in mind that we wanted to record. We had a few come into the studio to jam on the
song, and while they were all great, I really enjoyed what Jim Riley did on the song.
