You might not realize it, but punk rock is still going strong. It does not get the publicity like it did

back in the 80s, but there are still bands out there keeping the punk rock scene alive. One of
those bands is Up From Here out in Tampa, Florida. Yes, I know Tampa is not a place one calls

to mind when they think about punk rock, but this band should not be dismissed just because
they are not out of New York or Los Angeles. Bern from the group was kind enough to answer

some questions about the band and what they are up to these days.

Tim Board: How did the band get started? Who are the members and what are their roles?

Up From Here: We were in talks to start a project in the fall of 2014, and officially formed in the

spring of 2015. There's our vocalist, Danny; our lead guitarist, Tyler; and I'm our bass player,

            Bern.

TB: How did you decide on the name Up From Here and what were some names you

            discarded?

UFH: The name ‘Up From Here’ comes from the song ‘Same Thing We Do Everyday Pinky’ by

the band Broadway. We were like 18 when we came up with it and it was just one of those,
‘Woah...this would be a good band name’ scenarios. I don't remember all of the names we

discarded, but I remember one was called ‘Beyond Tragic.’ Thank God, we didn't call ourselves
            that!

TB: When one thinks of the punk rock scene, Tampa, Florida, is not an area that usually
comes to mind. What is the scene like in Tampa?

UFH: It has changed drastically since we formed. Both hometown local venues and bands have

come and gone, but the ones who have rode the wave the entire time have developed a tight-

knit community. There are some great venues here such as The Crowbar, Hooch & Hive,
Oscura,, and previously, The Goat House (RIP).
