The introduction of the World Wide Web has made it possible for musicians
to connect and be heard in global proportions. Through the use of the
internet, artists and bands now have the opportunity to expand their reach
and grow their fanbases well past their geographical boundaries. And this
also applies to the realm of radio, allowing for a new platform to
emerge…internet radio. While AM and FM once ruled the airwaves, we
now have a plethora of quality internet stations springing up and
commanding a vast audience. I like to refer to internet radio as “the
champions of independent artists” – for where would indie artists be
without the support of these stations?
When I founded ION Indie Magazine, it was on the premise of getting
independent music read about, seen, and heard. My vision, however, was
to expand far past the pages of this “Little Magazine That Could” into
other mediums – and part of that expansion included radio. Enter New
Music Food Truck, an ION Indie Magazine powered show, produced by Jim
Edwards and hosted by Stac Edwards.
Jim approached me last year about launching New Music Food Truck under
the umbrella of the ION Indie Magazine extended family. Knowing Jim as I
did, with his impeccable work ethic and high taste-level for great music, I
responded with an enthusiastic “Yes!”
Since its inception, NMFT, much like ION Indie Magazine itself, has
experienced meteoric growth. Each week, the Edwards brothers deliver a
slick and polished show that is attracting a vast, dedicated fanbase around
the globe due to its expansive reach through syndication. I had the
pleasure to sit down with Jim and Stac and ask them some in-depth
questions about their hit show…including a bit about their backgrounds
in broadcast, the show’s processes, their philosophies in relation to the
music they spin, and their future plans. As is expected with the food truck
fellas, they served up some tasty responses!
