Desensitised is an all-female band from Nottingham, consisting of Charlotte May Radford (bass,
vocals), Libby Butterworth-Smith (guitar), and Claire Brookes (drums). I met up with them for a
chat on a Tuesday evening at Yellow Arch Studios in Sheffield, as there was nothing on the telly
and I had no gigs to go to. No, hang on a sec, that's not quite true. We arranged to meet at Yellow
Arch and I cleared my diary for the meeting. That's what I meant to say, but it came out wrong.
Anyway, before the interview, a little background on the girls…
Libby started to learn the guitar when she was a mere 8-years-old and just three years later, she
was ready to try her hand at busking…'cos after all, that was the only way she was going to get
her mitts on the Telecaster she'd been eyeing up. She used to go to Nottingham city centre for an
hour or two after school most days, and maybe a bit longer on Saturdays. In those days, she was
managed by a chicken who used to go with her and pass a hat around the people that had
gathered to watch.
