KP: Like many bands, the lineup of Silversel has
changed and evolved over the years. Talk about
the current members of the band, a little about
their background, and what unique qualities
they bring to Silversel.
WS: Silversel has always been a melting pot. What
I mean is, we are all from slightly different musical
backgrounds. I feel that’s what helps us stay
unique. There are 3 original members in the band,
Rick Saldano (drums), Justin Myers (guitar), and
me (vocals). We three have been the core of
Silversel from the beginning and helped birth the
Silversel sound. Ricky comes from a Southern rock
background. His father, Tony, played for Molly
Hatchet and several other southern rock/country
bands over the years. So, that’s what he was used
to when we started this band. Justin comes from
more of 70’s rock background mixed with blues and
metal. In fact, when we met Justin, he was playing
entire Peter Frampton and Stevie Ray Vaughn
albums, lick for lick. He blew us away then, and still
does to this day. I come from a blues background.
My earliest memories were listening to my father’s
old Beach Boys, B.B. King, and Johnny Cash 45’s.
All these backgrounds, fused with heavy guitars,
helped build the Silversel sound. Over the years,
we’ve added guitarists and bassists. Some have
stayed, while others have moved on to other
endeavors. Presently rounding out the band are
Daniel Durden (guitar), Mikey Burress (guitar), and
Stephen Saxon (bass). Silversel has always prided
itself on being a live band. And that’s where Daniel
comes in. I’ve known Daniel since High School. He
was one of the guitarists for a regional band called
Another Day Lost. When we started looking for
someone to fill out twinned lead parts with Justin
and beefing up the guitar sound during live shows,
his name kept coming to mind. Daniel comes from
a pure metal background, and we soon realized he
was a perfect fit for the sound we were looking for.
Mikey is truly the backbone of Silversel -- a retired
Naval Chief, whatever is asked of him, he
produces. Mikey found Silversel back when I
wanted to stop playing guitar live. Mikey answered
an ad we posted, and the rest is history. His
dedication to this band is unwavering and we are
truly grateful he decided to stick around. Our
newest member is Stephen Saxon. We’ve known
Stephen for a while. He was previously in a regional
band and when the need arose for a new bass
player, he jumped at the chance. Stephen comes
from more of a funk/rock background, which adds
flavor to our live shows. His unique finger/slap style
is sure to delight audiences in the coming years. Wally Silver of Silversel
